The University of Melbourne Open Day

Seoul, 19 October 2008

In late 2008, Former Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Frank Larkins led a group of 20 academic and professional staff to Seoul to further enhance our already strong relationship with South Korea.

Former Deputy Vice-Chancellor Frank Larkins welcomes guestsProfessor Frank Larkins hosted a very successful Friends of the University Dinner at the Lotte Hotel in Seoul. Over 70 guests including alumni, university partners and senior government representatives enjoyed a night of good fun and conversation and many  business cards were exchanged.

Alumni who attended the dinner were particularly excited at reconnecting with old friends and meeting new ones, with whom they shared mutual University of Melbourne experiences. As a result, an informal alumni network has been established. For more information on the Korean alumni network, contact Mr David Byun at davidbyun@hotmail.comGuests networking at the friends dinner

The Experience Melbourne Day provided opportunity for students and their families to discover more about studying at the University of Melbourne and to seek advise from the faculties. There were a number of seminars conducted by senior academic staff which gave some insight into the different fields of study and the career opportunities thereafter. A panel of alumni answered a range of interesting questions such as “What was the most the most difficult/enjoyable/memorable experience at the University? What are the living conditions in Melbourne? What about getting a job after you graduate?” The panel also provided tips on how to tackle assignments and prepare for examinations.

The audience clearly appreciated hearing firsthand from those who had spent time at the University of Melbourne and their questions continued long after the session was over.

The University anticipates holding similar events in Korea in the future. If you would like to see what our senior academics presented to our Korean friends, download the seminar program.
